Dedicated to DJ Pratt (a Vinyl Don mix in memory of David John Pratt)

Long-time Kalapana member Gaylord Holomalia posted a photo on his Facebook page with the caption, "I Love You DJ".  We're not sure what to say, and even if we did, we wouldn't know how to say it. Listen to Roger Bong’s island-style Home Grown set on NTS

On this latest installment of his monthly NTS 2 show, Roger Bong digs deep into his extensive collection to deliver rare archival oddities and uncovered gems direct from the islands, including a handful of forthcoming releases from the Aloha Got Soul label. “When piecing this month’s show together, I gravitated toward the song ‘Dreary Afternoon’ by John Ka‘imikaua. Follow-up set: Aloha Got Soul #4 on VF Live

We're back.  This latest VF Live set was recorded impromptu immediately following our third installment for the series. Pulling from our crates, we edge away from the previous set's pop and psych sounds to paint a vivid image of Hawaii's range of styles, from tongue-in-cheek Vangelis tributes (see: Doug Lindsay and Pegge Hopper) and out-of-print Seawind covers to the latest AGS 7" (FRNT BZNZZ) and surfer soundtrack gems (Honk). The resulting mix is a trip through the duo's signature ability to highlight Hawaii's music in a refreshing, unexpected manner. Learn more: https://thevinylfactory.com/live/vf-live-aloha-got-soul-4

Eclectic sounds from Hawaii on NTS Radio: Home Grown with Roger Bong

On this latest installment of his monthly NTS show, Aloha Got Soul label head Roger Bong digs deep into the Hawaiian CD collection at KTUH, University of Hawaii's college radio station to deliver rare archival oddities and uncovered gems direct from the islands. “For me, Home Grown is an opportunity to broaden my scope of digging to compliment the often experimental and leftfield sound of NTS. It’s a chance for me to listen more intently to every crack and crevice of Hawaii’s musical canon and share it with everyone.” Across his expansive 60-minute set, the Honolulu-based selector connects the dots...
