Jelly's 30th Birthday: Cause To Celebrate (And Spin Vinyl)

Events Record Shops / Crate Digging

I have to say it, because I think it everyday: I feel so lucky to be living in Hawaii, working in Honolulu and doing the things I enjoy with people I'm grateful to be friends with. Not only do I get to bicycle through the city to my day job each morning, but Jelly's Honolulu is close enough to drop by during lunch or on the way home at the end of the day. Today I did just that (see the bike photo down below). But this Saturday, June 15, is a very special day for Jelly's. The staple Honolulu music store turns 30 years old—and to help celebrate, they've asked Aloha Got Soul and Oliver Twist to play for the masses as the sun goes down in Kaka‘ako.

What's Jelly's, you ask?

For that, I'll turn to Los Angeles DJ, radio personality, and vinyl enthusiast Frank Foreal of Cornerstore Radio. Frank was in town this time last year and wrote a nice review of Jelly's Honolulu. (Jelly's has since moved to a different storefront in the same building, located at 670 Auahi Street).

"Holy crap this place has a lot of records… and comics, and musical instruments, and dvd’s, and all sorts of fun things to geek out on! I spent about three hours at Jelly’s literally going through every single record that they had... Somehow, someway I only ended up spending about $75 at the spot, closing out a great day of diggin!"

Yes, indeed. You can come up on some great records at a decent price here. Especially with the right timing. And it's even better by bike, in my opinion.

Birthday Bash, this Saturday from 6-8pm

Honoluluans, I hope to see you at Jelly's this Saturday, which is also during Honolulu Night Market, a popular block party that takes over Auahi Street once a month.
