The premise behind every Aloha Got Soul release is to tell a story beyond the music.
The story of Mike Lundy is mysterious, complex, and layered with good intentions. The story of this reissue project is marked by multiple coincidences throughout the process of rereleasing music from The Rhythm Of Life—so much so, in fact, that I've been told these aren't coincidences. This story was meant to be.
A large part of the unfolding story of Mike Lundy's The Rhythm Of Lifereissue project will be told in the liner notes of the LP release, due out November 28th, 2015.
I decided very early on that the LP reissue needs to have liner notes in addition to new artwork. Not only does the original LP not include liner notes, it also doesn't feature a very good photo of Mike. You can barely even tell what this guy looks like from the original album!
The liner notes are finally complete and are on their way to the pressing plant to be inserted into the LP jackets. In the meantime, here's a sneak peek at what they look like:
The cover of the liner notes booklet features a handwritten lyric sheet to the initial version of "Love One Another".
Mike Lundy's personal essay featured in the opening spread of the booklet, plus a photo of Mike circa 1979.
Roger Bong's liner notes cover 6 pages of the booklet and retrace Mike's history back to the mid-1960s, when Mike formed a highly successful band called The Deltones.
