April 2014: Pauline Wilson and Music Magic Reunion Show

Events

While many fans of Hawaii bands Seawind and Music Magic will remember their heydays in the 1970s and 1980s—especially considering how Seawind rose to become one of the most popular, prolific, and talented jazz-funk-fusion groups in the world during their time, releasing albums on prominent labels like CTI Records and A&M—I'm not so lucky to have those memories to look back on. What I do have, however, is the pleasure of attending two reunion shows in 2011: Music Magic at Jazz Minds Cafe in October, and the 70s Nightclub Reunion with Nueva Vida featuring Pauline Wilson and Lil Albert. On April 4 & 5, 2014, fans old and new can relive the music made popular by Pauline Wilson and Seawind. Only this time around Pauline be backed by the members of Music Magic: Al Pascua, Jay Molina, Fred Schreuders and Darryl Blouin. Don't miss it!

She received a Grammy Award for her duet “Friends” with George Benson on the "In Harmony" album. Pauline and her band Ox performed in various clubs in Waikiki also fronting concerts for bands like Tower of Power, Deodato, War, Herbie Mann, and Cold Blood and were a mainstay for the acclaimed “Sunset Festivals” concert series held every year until in 1976, they moved to Los Angeles and changed their group name to Seawind. Joining Pauline on stage will be one of the top Hawaii jazz fusion bands from the 1970s and 80s, Music Magic. The original band including Band members Al Pascua, Jay Molina, Fred Schreuders and Darryl Blouin will perform. Music Magic released the very popular One Man Lady album and locals will remember them as the mainstay band at several local nightclubs in Honolulu including Tops Canterbury, Opus One, The Plaza Lounge and The Spindrifter. They also opened for such acts as Chaka Khan, Average White Band and Bob James.
