Everybody enjoys the summer. I don't know too many people who can't stand to see the sun. (
When I lived in Portland, the sun is all I craved). The same can be said about Summer, the Hawaiian soul-rock group that held a close relationship with the legendary contemporary Hawaiian group
Kalapana.

Terry's Place in Chinatown.

At
Summer's first gig in January, the bar was packed, the crowd bubbling with excitement over the group's reunion. This time, the atmosphere was mellow and relaxed, the bar filled with Summer's biggest fans, friends and family.
Nonetheless, every person in the room felt the same way now as they did back in
January, longing to hear the sweet sounds of Summer.

I can tell you, everyone thoroughly enjoyed Summer. They played originals from their debut LP,
In Malibu, including cuts like "Understanding the Man" (Terry's favorite), "Firefly", "Plenty of Reasons", "Love Is...", "New Year's Eve 1976", and many more—including "Juliette", written by Ron Yuen and
Mackey Feary of Kalapana.
"Kona Day" suddenly filled the room and the crowd's energy jumped several degrees, sparking a sense of joy and happiness to hear the band's catchy, uptempo groove from In Malibu.
Everyone enjoyed Summer so much that when the band finished their second set of the night, the bar rose up in unison, "Hana hou! Hana hou!" until Ron, Tim, guitarist Peterpaul Abiva and drummer Brad Choi gave in to the (what Brad and Tim jokingly called) 'arm-twisting'.
They wanted more. And more. And more!
Summer finished their set with about five hana hou performances—the people simply wanted more Summer, because no one can ever have enough of that sunshine-infused sound, music that reminds us of how good it is to live the island life, where it's summer all the time.
And with that, the night ended.
Until next time (and there's a big chance Summer will reunite once again!), when the people come together to enjoy Summer.
