AGS-LP001: A Look at the Liner Notes

The premise behind every Aloha Got Soul release is to tell a story beyond the music. The story of Mike Lundy is mysterious, complex, and layered with good intentions. The story of this reissue project is marked by multiple coincidences throughout the process of rereleasing music from The Rhythm Of Life—so much so, in fact, that I've been told these aren't coincidences. This story was meant to be. A large part of the unfolding story of Mike Lundy's The Rhythm Of Life reissue project will be told in the liner notes of the LP release, due out November 28th, 2015....

The Rhythm Of Life (And A Long September)

I often think back to the autumn of 2013—the year my life underwent a big shift in all areas—and the blog post I wrote with it. "To say that September brought extraordinary opportunities to my door would understate the fact that it was probably the busiest, craziest, most serendipitous and exhausting month in my life thus far, passing in what feels like a single day." That's from this post made two years ago, when apparently I was working harder than ever before in life, love, and the label (although at the time Aloha Got Soul was a year away from...

A Spectacular First Release: Mike Lundy Recap

First and foremost, thank you all who attended the release parties in sunny Honolulu and chilly Chicago and London. We had a great time making this record available in-person to those who attended the events. (Unfortunately I was only able to supply Chicago with 5 copies, so big ups to the ones who got to Punch House early to grab one!). The label launch party at Bevy coincided with our monthly Soul Time In Hawaii gig, which I found to be the perfect way to celebrate: good vibes, good drinks, and good music with myself and Oliver Seguin as the...

The First Release from Aloha Got Soul: Mike Lundy's "The Rhythm Of Life" on 45

It's nearly here, friends: the first release on the new Aloha Got Soul record label. I want to take some time to update you what's been going on since making the official announcement last November. Firstly, here's what the inaugural release sounds like: "The Rhythm Of Life" and "Tropic Lightning" were originally released in 1980 on Mike Lundy's LP, The Rhythm Of Life, now known throughout the world's record collecting community as a Hawaiian holy grail. Mike Lundy exclusively licensed the tracks to Aloha Got Soul. We're releasing a second 45 off TROL after this one, and we'll be doing...
